Artist Profile

Introduction and Experience
Cai Shuxin (b. 1976, Tangshan, Hebei) is an associate professor at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and a member of the China Artists Association. After completing his postgraduate studies at the China Academy of Art, he has dedicated his career to both oil painting and academic research. He has published extensively on the relationship between color and imagery, and is the author of the monograph Tibet Notes: A Collection of Oil Paintings by Cai Shuxin. His works are held in major institutional collections, including the National Art Museum of China.
Cai’s practice centers on the concept of “imagery” (yixiang), in which subjective perception and objective reality converge. Through a refined use of color and composition, he translates inner psychological states into visual form, balancing emotional depth with formal clarity. His work often reflects a sustained engagement with the landscapes and spiritual life of the Tibetan plateau, as seen in representative works such as Song of the Plateau and The Eternal Butter Lamp.
A recipient of numerous national and international awards, Cai Shuxin is recognized for his distinctive artistic vision. His paintings function as contemplative observations of the world, offering a form of spiritual expression that is both technically accomplished and deeply personal.
