Introduction and Experience
Jiang Yicai was born in Taoyuan, Taiwan in 1973. He graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of the Graduate Institute of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University, where he studied under Sun Jiaqin. He was deeply influenced by the artistic spirit of Zhang Daqian and also studied the works of famous artists from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, laying a solid foundation in brush and ink techniques. Since his sophomore year, he has been studying ancient paintings and art history, copying classic works from the Song and Yuan dynasties, understanding the spirit of brush and ink, and establishing his creative direction of "learning from the ancients, learning from nature, and learning from the heart".
His creative forms are diverse, encompassing folding fans, round fans, long scrolls, album leaves, hanging scrolls, screens, bamboo and wood carvings, and porcelain painting. His style is elegant and refined, blending calligraphy and painting to present the spirit of Eastern culture. He excels at using techniques such as boneless painting, line drawing, and texturing to depict flowers, birds, and landscapes. He has a precise grasp of materials and a delicate, poetic style. He takes predecessors such as the Three Masters of Crossing the Sea, Yu Youren, and Jiang Zhaoshen as his models, pursuing "lively spirit and free brushwork."
