Artist Profile

Introduction and Experience
Jiang You (b. 1976, Sichuan, China) is a professional painter currently based in Shenzhen. A graduate of the Fine Arts Department at Hebei Normal University, Jiang’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in his rural upbringing. His work centers on the quiet dignity of Chinese rural life, specifically the "earthy soul" of the domestic sphere—old kitchens, weathered brick stoves, and well-worn cookware imbued with the warmth of daily life. Through restrained compositions and a muted palette, he translates the passage of time and the haze of memory into a poetic visual language, evoking nostalgia for a simpler, more honest era.
In Jiang’s oeuvre, inanimate objects become vessels of spirit and emotion, carrying the collective memory of lived experience. He masterfully expresses the sensibility of nian wu—an emotional attachment to objects—revealing the silent, steadfast presence of domestic life with a tranquil, solitary beauty. His acclaimed series, including Vapors of the Mundane, Rising Hearth Smoke, and Kitchen Symphony, demonstrate not only technical mastery but also a deep reverence for working people and a sincere contemplation of the overlooked beauty of everyday life.
