Artist Introduction
Introduction and Experience
Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1959, he graduated from the Department of Mathematics at Soochow University. He is hailed by the international art world as the pioneer of the new field of "Totem Energy Art" and a forerunner of the spiritual energy style. His unique totem painting style and Zen-like connotations have transcended the limitations of contemporary art, causing a sensation in the global art world.
He is the first Asian artist in a century to be invited to participate in the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009 with a solo exhibition of oil paintings. International media have hailed him as "opening up an unprecedented new artistic field of 'Eastern philosophy' vs. 'Western art' at the Venice Biennale." To date, he has won a total of 47 international art competition awards in painting, sculpture, and installation art categories, and has won as many as 105 international photography competition awards certified by the Photographic Society of America (PSA).
His creative reach extends from painting, photography, sculpture, and installation art to music, architecture, and fashion boutique design, all of which have garnered high attention and admiration from the international art world. In 2010, Li Shandan was invited to serve as the art director of "Art Revolution Taipei," and his debut event achieved an impressive artist sales rate of 89.66%, earning praise and recognition from the art community.
"Totem Energy Art" is rooted in Chinese culture, integrates Western painting art, and incorporates the lines of "totems" from ancient civilizations to create a unique new aesthetic realm. Li Shandan hopes to present the light of nature and humanity in his works through a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and the human spirit, allowing viewers to find peace, light, fulfillment, and goodness, and achieving a spiritual connection with them.
