Introduction and Experience
Liao Meilan (b. 1961, Taiwan) seamlessly integrates the disciplined foundations of Western academic drawing with the expressive language of Chinese ink painting. Grounded in a humanistic realist vision, she has long focused on portraying the lives of ordinary working people. Through refined lines, ink, and color, Liao captures the kindness, resilience, and quiet dignity of her subjects, offering a deeply empathetic reflection on the shared human condition.
In recent years, Liao has worked primarily in Eastern gouache, developing a luminous contemporary style distinguished by vibrant colors and poetic atmospheres. Guided by the principle of “overall expressiveness with selective realism,” she transforms meticulous observation into lyrical expression. Spanning figures, animals, landscapes, and florals, her paintings celebrate the quiet beauty of everyday life, evoking a gentle sense of warmth, grace, and contentment.
