Artist Introduction

Introduction and Experience
Born in 1963 in Dandong, Liaoning Province, he began to teach himself to paint at the age of 7. At the age of 40 (2003), he went to Shanghai and began to develop his unique artistic style. His delicate, elegant, classical yet slightly whimsical painting style has made "Women Smoking Pipes" a highly sought-after work in the art market, and he is therefore hailed as one of the most representative contemporary Chinese painters.
Liu Baojun's works are aesthetically pleasing, demonstrating a keen eye for detail. His brushstrokes, while delicate, also possess a generous elegance. His technique in capturing color and light is particularly unique. The figures in his paintings, whether sitting, standing, lying down, leaning on a desk, resting their heads on their arms, or craning their necks, exude a tranquil and comfortable beauty within a languid and leisurely atmosphere; yet, his artistic language also presents a vibrant vitality. His creations possess both a realistic classical quality and the energy and charm of contemporary art. Wandering freely within these realms, he demonstrates a mastery of form and a talent for expressing beauty.
