Artist Profile

Introduction and Experience
Maya Hewitt (b. 1981, London, UK) is a contemporary British artist and a graduate of Chelsea College of Art and Design, University of the Arts London. She is known for her highly narrative paintings, in which she weaves together Eastern and Western cultural symbols, historical imagery, and subconscious psychological landscapes to construct visual theaters that hover between reality and dream.
Her practice explores themes of memory, power, cultural heritage, and the reconstruction of identity. Through meticulous brushwork and a deliberate sense of emotional distance, Hewitt creates compositions that function as acts of psychological archaeology—reassembling fragments fractured by history and time to reveal the emotional residues and underlying tensions beneath the surface of civilization.
