Artist Introduction
Introduction and Experience
Based on the original knife painting techniques of his father, folk artist Song Wanqing, Song Junjie has diligently studied Chinese and Western painting techniques, drawing on the strengths of both and continuously innovating and developing his own style. He employs various self-made knives and a unique technique primarily based on color reduction, integrating traditional Chinese painting techniques such as texturing, rubbing, dotting, and dyeing with the characteristics of oil painting. This results in works that possess both profound artistic conception and charm, as well as the realism and vividness of oil painting. The paintings are fresh and elegant, lively and expressive, with rich oil paint, creating an immersive experience for the viewer.
Song Junjie's knife paintings blend the characteristics of Chinese landscape painting, oil painting textures, and scraping techniques. Building upon the knife painting techniques established by his father, he strives for innovation and variation. His works often depict natural scenery, mountains, and flowing water, emphasizing artistic conception and spirit. Critics have noted that he pursues the creative philosophy of "learning from nature and finding inspiration within," striving for naturalness and avoiding affectation in his paintings.
His creative tools are diverse, including steel knives, rubber knives, foam, and brushes, in addition to rubber knives, to achieve different shaving, scraping, and rubbing effects. Song Junjie's works have been exhibited and collected both domestically and internationally, and he is dedicated to making knife painting, a genre that blends traditional and innovative techniques, more widely known and valued.
