Thibault Jandot (Coeur)

Thibault Jandot (b. 1985, France) began his artistic career in 2009 under the pseudonym Coeur (French for “heart”), initially working in street graffiti. After three years of studying applied arts, he transitioned to oil painting, developing a distinctive visual language that oscillates between urban street art and the rigor of academic painting.

Jandot’s work explores the complex relationship between humans and animals through a lens that is unconventional, unsettling, and subtly ironic. Within his compositions, humanity, the self-proclaimed "dominant species," often becomes the subject of quiet critique. When asked why animals have become his primary focus, Jandot reflects: “Since I began, animals have increasingly taken over my paintings. I cannot fully explain it, but I find myself deeply attuned to the emotions they express.”

His artistic universe unfolds as a contemporary bestiary, where animal "portraits" serve as mirrors to the human condition. Rendered with a raw, unembellished technique, these works are imbued with a critical sensibility. By placing particular emphasis on the expressive features of the animal’s face, Jandot captures a striking emotional depth, inviting the viewer to reconsider the boundaries between the civilized and the wild.
