Introduction and Experience
Wang Tianliang, whose ancestral home is Shanghai, was born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. He returned to Shanghai with his family at the age of five, and moved to Fuzhou, Fujian Province at the age of seven, where he grew up, studied, and worked. He is one of the representative figures of contemporary Chinese lacquer painting and ink painting art, and is both an artist and an educator.
Wang Tianliang graduated from Xiamen Arts and Crafts School in 1985, specializing in crafts and painting, covering multiple fields such as traditional Chinese painting, lacquer painting, sculpture, and ceramics. Subsequently, he completed his bachelor's degree in history at Fujian Normal University in 1989 and obtained his master's degree in fine arts from the same university in 1992.
Since 1991, Wang Tianliang has served as the principal of Fuzhou Arts and Crafts School. After the school merged in 2001, he became the dean of the School of Fine Arts at Minjiang University, where he has long been dedicated to the cultivation and promotion of lacquer art talents. He is currently an honorary professor at Fuzhou University Xiamen Arts and Crafts School and holds important positions in organizations such as the Fujian Provincial Lacquer Art Culture Research Association.
Wang Tianliang's artistic creations blend Chinese calligraphy with modern ink painting techniques, using lacquer painting as the primary medium to create a unique "thermal abstraction" style. His works are known for their strong color tension, calligraphic lines, and profound visual texture, presenting a deep reflection on history, civilization, and philosophy.
He once said, "Lacquer is the best adhesive in nature, capable of encompassing all things and having endless uses." This concept is reflected in his combination of lacquer art with modern abstract expressionism, creating artworks with an international perspective.
