Artist Profile

Introduction and Experience
Wang Weichiuan (b. 1958, Taichung, Taiwan) is a prominent driftwood artist whose creative path began with a moment of serendipity. After a career in trade and manufacturing, Wang returned to his roots, where a chance encounter with a falling pine cone in 2003 became the catalyst for a profound dialogue with nature. In 2005, he founded the Shanpi’s Home Driftwood Studio. His works have since earned widespread recognition and numerous accolades, including First Prize at the 9th A.R.T. International Artist Award Competition.
Wang’s practice is grounded in a deep reverence for the natural world. He regards driftwood as a resilient symbol of life, transforming weathered timber into an artistic language imbued with warmth and philosophical reflection. His sculptures retain a raw, organic materiality that reflects the original intentions, conveying themes of gratitude, contentment, and the beauty of imperfection.
Through his art, Wang seeks to awaken a renewed awareness of the land. By integrating art into everyday life, he encourages a return to its essential spirit, allowing nature’s stories to find a contemporary voice within the domestic space.
