Introduction and Experience
Xiao Peng (b. 1964, Xi’an) is a professional painter, a member of the Beijing Artists Association, and Executive Vice President of the Oil Painting Institute of the China Future Research Association. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts at Capital Normal University in 1986 and later studied under a second-generation disciple of Xu Beihong, undertaking an in-depth study of classical European oil-painting techniques rooted in the Renaissance tradition. Recognized by the State Council’s China Asia-Pacific Economic Development Research Center for his artistic contributions, Xiao established his own studio in Beijing, where he has devoted himself to classical realist oil painting.
Xiao’s works frequently draw upon traditional Chinese architecture, vernacular dwellings, the Forbidden City, and Buddhist themes. Employing classical oil-painting techniques, he renders subtle gradations of light and color to express a deep attachment to homeland, cultural identity, and the continuity of tradition. His paintings bring together the profound cultural resonance of China with the rigorous discipline of European classical painting, revealing warmth and a sense of history within everyday life.
