Introduction and Experience
Xu Song Bo (b. 1971, Nanyang, Henan, China) is an Associate Professor and Graduate Advisor in the Comprehensive Painting Department at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts (TAFA). Based in Beijing and Tianjin, he graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Henan University in 1993 and earned his M.A. from the Mural Painting Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in 2005.
Xu’s artistic practice combines oil painting techniques with cultural imagery drawn from the Han and Tang Dynasties. Guided by the philosophy of "following the ancients as mentors while seeking daily renewal," his major series—including Dao Inquiries, Tang Feng, Pure Realm, and Dreamland Hometown—present contemporary interpretations of traditional Chinese culture.
His work has been widely exhibited internationally, including the Art Capital at the Grand Palais and NordArt in Germany. He has published several monographs, including Crossing Time and Space and Pure Realm, and in 2024, he completed the "Great Tang Series" Painting Project funded by the National Arts Fund of China.
