Xu Wenyong

Xu Wenyong (b. 1978, Zhangpu, Fujian, China) is a contemporary realist landscape oil painter known for his sensitive portrayals of rural architecture and regional scenery. Passionate about painting from an early age, Xu pursued formal study at the Fujian Arts and Crafts School in 1997 and has devoted his practice to oil painting, plein-air study, and landscape research since 1999. Through sustained observation of village life, historic architecture, and the earthen tulou dwellings of Fujian, he has developed a distinctive realist language deeply rooted in regional culture and lived experience. 

Xu’s works have been featured in numerous exhibitions, including the East Sea Wave Emerging Artists Exhibition in Fujian and several national landscape oil painting exhibitions organized by the China Artists Association. Works such as Morning Melody, Tulou Families, Farmer’s Courtyard, and the Peaceful Homeland series reflect his ongoing exploration of the relationship between architecture, landscape, and collective memory. 

His paintings have been widely collected by galleries and private collectors in China and abroad. Through his sustained focus on disappearing rural landscapes and traditional architecture, Xu continues to cultivate a quietly distinctive presence within contemporary Chinese realist painting.
