Work Description

This Blue Glaze Straight Neck Vase with Dragon Design was produced under the supervision of Art Exhibitions China in 2001. It is based on the first official authorization granted by the Palace Museum, Beijing, in 2000 for the reproduction of the original Qing dynasty imperial prototype. Issued in a strictly limited edition of 200 pieces worldwide, it is regarded as an object of exceptional collectible significance.

The form of the tianqiu ping (celestial globe vase), with its elongated neck and rounded body, derives from innovative ceramic shapes developed at Jingdezhen during the Ming dynasty. Its voluminous silhouette conveys a sense of grandeur and imperial prosperity. The vessel is entirely covered in a high-fired qing blue glaze of a deep, lustrous tone, enriched with finely executed gilded decoration depicting dragons, crashing waves, and an auspicious “wan” (卍) motif border.

The base bears a seal-script mark reading “Made in the Reign of Qianlong of the Great Qing.” The technical demands of firing and wheel-throwing such a large, perfectly spherical form are considerable; the reproduction process, therefore, underwent an extensive period of approval and testing over several years. This work stands as a significant convergence of intangible cultural heritage craftsmanship and contemporary collectible value.
