Work Description
This Plate with Nine Dragons Pattern was produced under the supervision of Art Exhibitions China in 2000. Formed on a porcelain body with a deep blue glaze, the surface is adorned with nine coiling dragons rendered in 24K gold lacquer thread carving. The gilded lines undulate across the composition, depicting dragons ascending through clouds and waves in pursuit of sacred pearls: a classic motif embodying both imperial authority and auspicious symbolism.
The lacquer thread technique employs a mixture of natural lacquer and mineral powder, meticulously shaped into raised lines and built up in successive layers before being finished with gold leaf. The process is intricate and highly refined, requiring exceptional manual precision to achieve such structural depth.
By integrating traditional courtly iconography with contemporary ceramic artistry, the work bridges historical aesthetics and modern production. Issued as a limited edition, this plate represents a synthesis of decorative heritage and institutional craftsmanship, enhancing its significance as a collectible work of art.
