Work Description
Executed in the expressive spirit of mogu xieyi (“boneless freehand”) painting and infused with the fluidity of the splashed-ink technique, the composition unfolds through cascading layers of diluted and saturated ink. Tonal washes drift freely across the surface, evoking lotus leaves swaying in summer breeze like mist moving through a forested landscape.
Amid this atmospheric field of ink, delicate touches of pale white emerge through fine brushwork to suggest the quiet blossoming of lotus flowers. The interplay between spontaneous expression and refined detail creates a dynamic balance between presence and absence, allowing the scene to feel at once expansive and ethereal.
Monumental in atmosphere yet graceful in spirit, the work captures the vitality of a midsummer lotus pond shimmering beneath shifting light and wind. Through its fluid forms and layered ink resonance, the painting embodies the enduring poetic sensibility of the Dafengtang tradition.
