Work Description
The Gathering and Dispersing series examines the notions of convergence and separation as both psychological states and visual forms. Through a realist treatment of the figures in the foreground and along the right side of the canvas, Huang creates a quiet dramatic tension, as heavy garments and solemn expressions stand in contrast to the luminous white ground.
Capturing the fleeting balance between human connection and individual isolation, the work reflects the alienation and solitude of modern urban existence. Through his observations of the crowds in Salamanca, Huang also projects his own experience of displacement and homesickness, transforming the rhythms of an unfamiliar city into a meditation on memory, distance, and belonging.
