The People in Mind
series was inspired by Huang Hungtao’s observations of people strolling through the streets of Salamanca, Spain. Using semi-abstract brushwork, he depicts flowing figures against blurred backgrounds, while the central figures remain relatively defined, emphasizing the presence of the individual within the crowd.
The works reflect the artist’s prolonged observation of unfamiliar urban environments and his sense of nostalgia and displacement. Through their dreamlike visual language, the paintings explore the complex relationships between intimacy and alienation, revealing the fluid interplay of memory, emotion, and human connection.
