The People in Mind
series emerged from Huang Hungtao’s prolonged observations of the streets of Salamanca, Spain. Through semi-abstract, expressive brushwork, he renders drifting crowds against blurred backgrounds and richly layered colors, evoking a dreamlike atmosphere.
Here, resting female figures occupy the foreground, standing in quiet contrast to the hurried flow of passersby. This juxtaposition reflects the paradox of modern urban existence—simultaneously connected and isolated. By projecting his nostalgia and memories of home onto these foreign crowds, Huang transforms fleeting emotions and inner experiences into a poetic meditation on memory, distance, and the human condition.
