With a profound affection for his homeland, Huang Tushui regarded the water buffalo as an embodiment of the spirit of the land. To capture its natural movement and presence, he built a cowshed beside his studio and observed the animals closely over an extended period.
Rendered with meticulous realism, the sculpture captures a calf in a moment of quiet stillness. Its supple, rhythmic lines and carefully modeled surface convey a palpable sense of life and vitality. Calm yet resilient, the animal’s posture demonstrates Huang’s mature sculptural mastery while quietly expressing his deep and enduring love for the land of Taiwan.
