Work Description

Geumgangsan (Mount Kumgang) presents an expansive mountain landscape rendered in oil paint through a panoramic composition reminiscent of the handscroll tradition of East Asian art. A winding river guides the viewer’s gaze through layered peaks and drifting mist, unfolding the terrain with a quiet sense of movement and spatial depth.

Park Yi Chul employs richly textured layers of pigment to articulate the rugged weight of rocky cliffs, trees, and vegetation, while subtle variations of light and atmosphere breathe renewed vitality into the work’s classical sensibility. Beyond its monumental landscape, the painting seeks a deeper rhythm within nature itself, reflecting the philosophical ideal of harmony between humanity and the natural world.

Through the flowing course of the river and the vast stillness of the mountains, the work invites the viewer into a space of contemplation. It offers a sense of inner calm and spiritual repose, allowing the modern observer to rediscover a feeling of grounding within the timeless cycles of nature.
