Work Description
The Buddha Unveiling Festival captures the awe-inspiring ritual where the air vibrates with thunderous energy and the primordial power of a sacred land. The scale, devotion, and grandeur of the event leave a lasting impression—an experience that resonates deeply within the soul.
In early 2016, during the Tibetan New Year, Wang witnessed the festival at Labrang Monastery. What struck him most was not the unfurling of the massive Thangka, but the monumental procession itself: young monks, flanked by horsemen, musicians, and devotees, carrying the colossal Buddha from the main hall to the Buddha Unveiling Plaza in a powerful display of faith and unity.
Residing upon the “Roof of the World,” the Tibetan people remain among the world’s most devout believers; their culture is rich, independent, enigmatic, and timeless. Horses in ceremonial regalia, striding proudly, form one of the festival’s most striking images, evoking the enduring spiritual legacy and the wild, windswept traditions of the snow-capped plateau.
