Artist Profile

Introduction and Experience
Chen Wenjye studied industrial design at Musashino Art University and Tokyo Designers Gakuin College in Japan. Over a forty-year career in industrial design, he worked as a designer for DID Co., Ltd. in Japan and later served as general manager of DID Taiwan and Deanly International, developing a practice grounded in precision, structure, and formal discipline.
In recent years, Chen shifted his focus toward sculpture, founding the Jack and the Beanstalk Art Museum in 2025. Working with reclaimed metal gathered from scrapyards, construction sites, and seashores, he transforms discarded steel through welding, hammering, and grinding into forms that move between figuration and abstraction, turning industrial remnants into a deeply personal sculptural language.
Rooted in both industrial craftsmanship and artistic intuition, Chen’s sculptures explore themes of transformation, memory, and spiritual reflection, exemplified by works such as The Buddha Achieving Dreams. Through his hands, weathered, oxidized, and utilitarian metals transcend their structural origins to become poetic vessels of contemporary expression.
