Artist Profile

Introduction and Experience
Yu Lienchun (b.1961, Taipei, Taiwan) developed a profound passion for art in his youth, cultivating an exceptional sensitivity to form through constant sketching. After graduating from Fu-Hsin Trade and Arts School, he pursued advanced studies at Musashino Art University in Tokyo under Professor Akio Kato, specializing in Terracotta sculpture. This period marked a pivotal turning point, as the human figure became the central focus of his artistic exploration.
Upon returning to Taiwan, Yu dedicated himself to mastering Terracotta, overcoming the medium’s inherent fragility through innovative molding and internal support techniques. Translating the immediacy of sketching into sculpture, he captures the fluid lines and dynamic movement of the human body with remarkable precision. His ability to infuse Terracotta with complex moods and raw emotion has established the distinctive and recognizable “Yu Lienchun style” in contemporary sculpture.
In recent years, Yu has expanded his practice, experimenting with diverse materials such as stainless steel, rose silver, silver, and copper. By exploring the tension between the industrial strength of metal and the organic warmth of Terracotta, he creates welded sculptures that balance structural power with subtle elegance, imparting renewed vitality and poetic depth to his work.
