Introduction and Experience
Huang Hungtao (b. 1959, Taiwan) holds an MFA from the University of Salamanca, Spain, and a BFA from the Fine Arts Department at the National Defense University in Taiwan. A former university professor, he has long been active in both art education and artistic practice, frequently serving as a juror for national military and fine arts competitions.
Central to Huang’s work is the motif of the crowd, which he regards as a silent yet eloquent language of the city. The figures that populate his paintings are not merely groups of individuals, but condensed expressions of collective emotion and social atmosphere, revealing the rhythms and psychological landscapes of contemporary urban life.
Working intuitively, Huang captures fleeting visual impressions and suspends transient moments in time, allowing ephemeral emotions to endure. His major series include Gathering and Dispersing, Different Aspects of People Together, People in Mind, Young People, and The Shining Moment, all of which reflect his enduring exploration of memory, human relationships, and the passage of time.
